Wedding Cake Alternative
There’s an old wives tale that says if you take a piece of wedding cake home and put it under your pillow, you’ll dream of your future groom. Charming, if a little messy.
An alternative to the traditional wedding cake is the wedding cupcake! Yes, I know, it sounds a little odd, but let’s look at it a little more.
Let’s face it, a single cake isn’t usually enough for every guest to get a piece…even the ones with multiple layers. A back up is generally needed to fulfill the need. Cupcakes fill that need nicely, and can serve as both back up and the display cake!
Buy or borrow a tired cake stand, and bribe a friend or family member (or several) into joining you for a day of baking—if you can talk someone into doing this for you, you’re amazing ( and packaged cupcake mix works just fine)! Have the cupcakes simply but identically decorated, then arrange them on the different levels of the cake stand. Depending on the numbers, you may need to cover a large piece of cardboard with shiny paper to give you more space to work on. Add prigs of tiny flowers, or other wedding paraphernalia, and whatever topper tickles your fancy. You can even add the traditional tiny Bride and Groom to your non-traditional wedding cake.
The end result is beautiful, and each of your guests can walk away with their own cupcake.
If you’re particularly energetic, you can put small charms in some of the cupcakes…a sort of treasure hunt for the guests. Just be careful of the choking hazards and inform your guest ahead of time. Maybe the individuals with the charmed cupcakes win a kiss from the bride!

My cousins did pie and the whole time I wished they would have done cupcakes. I love the idea and it seems the least messy alternative.

I had a donut cake at my wedding! Krispy Kremes stacked on a cake stand.
