Can I Get Out of This?–Common Sense
We now interrupt your regularly scheduled read for a word from Common Sense.
Can I get out of this?
Weddings can run anywhere from a few bucks, to…well, unlimited amounts of money. It really depends on what your situation is and what you want. There are no hard and fast rules about how much a wedding should cost, but it is your money your spending (or your family’s if you’re lucky). You should spend it wisely and find out what provisions are in place should the goods (or services) not be delivered to your liking or in a timely manner. Let’s be fair here and admit through no fault of the provider, you could very well change what you want your wedding to be, and, if you decide to do this, it’s best to know that you can get your money back, should you need to, right?
So, what do you do? Check policies. Ask about policies. What, if any provisions are in them for the return of your hard earned cash? Under what circumstances will that money be returned, what time frame are you looking at for its return, and in what form will it be returned (are they offering your cash back, or services in lieu of?)
If there isn’t a policy in place, ask for a written statement from the service (or goods) provider to draw one up (NOTE: in writing–very important!). If they balk at this concept, perhaps you’re better off looking elsewhere.
Ask around. Check into reputations. And remember the old adage–if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
We now return you to your regularly scheduled read. Thank you.
